Emma Strapps Shiatsu Canberra

Emma Strapps Dip. Shiatsu, MA. is a highly experienced practitioner of over 14 years. Emma’s Shiatsu practice is highly tuned in to her clients needs, drawing on many years of experience and knowledge of dance, shiatsu, yoga, tai chi and meditation. Integral to her practice are empathy, professionalism and quality of care. Emma is particularly interested in how stress manifests in the body through physical and emotional pain, blockage and disease. She is committed to a holistic and sustainable treatment approach.

Emma holds a Diploma in Shiatsu & Oriental Therapies from The Australian Shiatsu College, Melbourne (2002).
Post graduate workshop highlights include: Bill Palmer, Movement Shiatsu (UK); Mayu Endo, Tao Shiatsu (Japan); Cherrie Scott, Non Violent Communication (Australia) and Amber Grey, Continuum (USA)

She is currently the Vice President of the Shiatsu Therapy Association of Australia (STAA), the peak body for Shiatsu professionals in Australia and regularly contributes to their publication, Pointers. Emma holds a current certificate in Senior First Aid, a Working with Vulnerable people card (ACT) and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

Emma is in the process of developing a research project that will consider methods for measuring the safety and efficacy of shiatsu for its continued use within the Australian healthcare landscape.

Emma is also a professional dancer, choreographer, dance teacher and avid yoga practitioner with a long held interest in understanding how the human body functions at an optimal level.

Emma completed a Masters of Arts in Choreography at the Victorian College of the Arts/Melbourne University (2011) with First Class Honours. This research linked her interests in Shiatsu and dance.

Emma previously held the position of coordinator and supervisor of performing artists on the Solo Residency Program, Victoria University, Performing Arts, Creative Industries (2006-2012). Since arriving in Canberra, Emma has taught dance for a variety of organisations including QL2, Belconnen Arts Centre, Tuggeranong Arts Centre, Canberra Dance Theater and Radford Primary School. Emma conducts workshops in Australia and overseas.
